Dhwani Sriranga Prashati award to Prof Shivaprakasha

Dubai,Sep 30: Jayant Kaikini’s Kannada  play ‘Iti Ninna Amrutha’a was staged at Nashwan Auditorium, Al Nasar Liesureland, Dubai on Friday September 26 on the occasion of 29th anniversary of Dhwani Pratishthana.

The play was directed by Prakash Rao Payyar president of Dhwani Pratishthana.

Prof H S Shivaprakash, a leading poet and playwright was awarded Dhwani Sriranga Prashati award for the year 2013-14. Dhwani Pratishthana honours eminent Kannada theatre personalities with the ’Dhwani Sriranga Prashasti” an International Kannada Theatre Award every year which comprises cash reward and a memento. He is a professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He heads the Cultural Centre at Berlin, known as the Tagore Centre, as director run by Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

A brief stage program was organized prior to drama and Prof H S Shivaprakash and  Chief Guest of the day and the main sponsor of the event Satish Venkataramana( managing director- Chilly Willy group) inaugurated  the event with lighting of lamp accompanied by Harish Sheregar (managing director ( Acme Building Materials LLC), Shekar Shetty (MD Arab Udupi group), Ramchanchdra Hegde( MD -Spraytek industries), Sarvotham Shetty (president – Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha), Ganesh Rai, Prakash Rao Payyar (president, Dhwani Pratishthana,), Madusudhan Kuamr(Painter and Film Producer from Mumbai). All the guests and sponsors were felicitated.

During the occasion, Shivaprakash praised Dhwani Prathishthana for this special award and appreciated their efforts in keeping the Kannada drama, art and literature alive through their organization. Satish Venkataraman the main sponsor was also honoured on the occasion.
 
All the support sponsors and media representative, sounds, lighting, music, stage setting and all supporting people of drama were called upon the dais and were honoured. Murgesh Gajare introduced Prof Shivaprakash to audience and Jayant Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. Sudarshan Hegde compered.

Kannada Play 'Iti Ninna Amrutha', the story of unrequited love was staged on the occasion. The powerful performances of Gopika Mayya (Amritha) and Prabhakar Kamath (Zulfi) had the audience spellbound for over two hours. The two characters (the play has only two actors) remained tied to their writing desks all through the performance.

Amrita's story is a reflection on an enlightened woman's life that is found ahead of her times by most in all the situations in life. But his friend's character is representative of a typical male in Indian society who is surrounded by the various social pressures not to exercise his will and choice when it comes to selection of a life time companion for himself.  Amrita leads a life by her own terms even goes to Paris to pursue her love for paintings, but the pain of not been able to get her true love by her side aches her heart throughout.

This experimental play was directed by noted Kannada stage director Prakash Rao Payyar. Attractive yet simple stage setting by Ganesh Rai, excellent light and sound arrangement by Vinayakumar Naik, pleasant music by Arun Carlo were the main plus points of the play. Samapth Shetty, Santosh Poojary, Sandesh Jain, Ganesh Kulal, Jayant Shetty, Padmaraj Yekkar,Satish Ullal , Murgesh Gajare , Navin Siquare, Dinesh ,Ershad Moodbidri supported from back stage. At the end of the play, all those who played a part in making the event successful were honoured by HS Shivaprakash and Sarvothama Shetty.
