Kolkata, Sep 30 (IANS): Noting most of the Atletico de Kolkata footballers were in "peak health", healthcare experts here advised members of the Indian Super League (ISL) franchise to keep themselves hydrated in the hot climate and have hygienic food as precautionary measures for avoiding tummy problems.
"Since football is a very physical sport and taking note of India's hot climate, we advised them to exercise precaution regarding their food habits. Especially, they must have ample amount of fluids.
"And however delicious food items here may seem to them, they must only have hygienic food from trusted sources otherwise they will end up have having tummy problems," Sujit Kar Purkayastha, Medical and Joint Managing Director, Peerless Hospital and ABK Roy Research Centre, told IANS Tuesday.
The hospital is the official health partner of Atletico de Kolkata for the upcoming ISL matches.
Purkayastha said doctors from the hospital will be present at each of the team's matches here to monitor their health and administer prompt aid in case of medical emergencies.
On the occasion of World Heart Day, the team members present underwent health check-ups at the hospital, Monday.
"Almost all of them are in peak form. Their degree of fitness can inspire youngsters to remain healthy and take preventive actions so that they do not have any cardiac problems later," the expert said.
A few tips include avoiding tobacco, getting regular exercise (at least 30 minutes, most days of the week) and eating heart-friendly foods can go a long way in improving heart health.
