Brazil president visits Rio Olympic Park

Rio de Janeiro, Oct 1 (IANS): Brazil President Dilma Rousseff made her first visit to the 2016 Rio Olympic Park just five days before the country's presidential election.

Rousseff was given a guided tour of the Olympic Park facilities Tuesday by Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and state Governor Luiz Fernando Pezao, reports Xinhua.

Also present were members of the International Olympic Committee's coordination commission who are conducting an inspection of the Games works.

Located west of the city centre, Rio's Olympic Park will host 16 Olympic and 10 Paralympic events.

Rousseff's visit came as a new poll by research institute Datafolha showed Rousseff, of the centre-left PT party, would win a second-round run-off with 49 percent of the vote.

Her main rival Marina Silva, of the centre-left PSB party, is on track to secure 41 percent of the deciding ballot, according to the poll. A run-off will be held if no candidate attracts at least 50 percent of Sunday's vote.
