Stolen temple idols recovered

Mathura, Oct 2 (IANS): Some highly valued idols of Radha Raman stolen from a village temple in this region in Uttar Pradesh nine months ago have been recovered and restored at the shrine.

The 550-year-old statues, installed by Raja Todar Mall, a minister of Mughal emperor Akbar, were recovered Monday night, Senior Superintendent of Police Manzil Saini said.

They have been returned to the temple that Raja Todar Mall built in Sanket village, Saini said.

Saini said a six-member gang that stole the statues had planned to smuggle them out of India. Three suspects have been arrested.
