Indian men spikers finish 5th at Asiad


Incheon, Oct 3 (IANS) The Indian men's volleyball team finished fifth in the 17th Asian Games after defeating Qatar 3-2 in a 5th-6th position playoff at the Songnim Gymnasium here Friday.

India won the contest 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-10 in an hour and 47 minutes.

Both teams shared the first four sets which led to the decider where India pulled up their socks to win the set in 15 minutes.

Overall, India won 105 points in the match to Qatar's 103.

Gurinder Singh was the highest scorer for India with 20 points while Naveen Raja Jacob Manidurai and Govindarajan Ramakrishnan Vaishnav gave good support with 18 points each.

Renan Ribero was the highest scorer for Qatar with 21 points.
