Mangalore, Oct 11: During three days of curfew, the roads in the city limits were looking deserted with no vehicles.  This meant that a few vehicles which were permitted to move during curfew had a festal time as they zoomed in highest speed.  However, there were no chances of accidences or road crashes during these days.

But now that the curfew has been lifted during the day time, vehicles are once again fond on the road and the accident spree has once again started.  The first fatal accident after the curfew was lifted was reported from Baikampady on Wednesday October 11 morning.  A bike rider was knocked down to death by a tipper on Tuesday morning near Deepak Petrol Bunk at Baikampady.

The deceased has been identified as Shivanna alias Shivaprasad (24), a resident of NMPT Colony near Panambur here.  He owned a mobile service shop in Suratkal.  On Wednesday morning, he was on his way to the shop when a tipper owned by a shipping company and driven recklessly, hit Shivaprasad's bike from behind.

As a result, the rider fell on the road and before he could recover, the back tyre of the tipper crushed his head.  Shivaprasad sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.  However, the tipper driver managed to escape taking advantage of the huge crowd that gathered on the spot.  But the police seized the tipper later.

Panambur police have booked a case against the tipper driver in this regard.
