13 bandits killed in Bangladesh


Dhaka, Oct 6 (IANS): Thirteen suspected bandits were killed during gunfights with police in Bangladesh.

Two bandits were killed in Sundarbans region Sunday during a clash with a police patrol, who also detained 11 others, Xinhua quoted a police official as saying.

Weapons were seized in the Hadda area in an ensuing raid.

In another encounter, police fired back after other bandits opened fire on them, the official said, adding that 11 bandits were killed in the second gunfight.

Six policemen were wounded in the shootout, he said.

Bandits often attack police and fishermen in Sundarbans area and take fishermen hostages for ransom.
