Nine injured as crackers go off in Bengal police station


Kolkata, Oct 6 (IANS): At least nine people including six policemen were seriously injured Monday when seized illegal crackers went off inside a police station in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district, police said.

The incident happened in Habra police station when a truck full of illegal crackers was being unloaded.

"When the illegal crackers were being unloaded, somehow they caught fire and all of them went off resulting in injuries to six policemen and three others. The condition of one of the policeman is critical," Additional Superintendent of Police (Barasat) Bhaskar Mukherjee told IANS.

The injured have been admitted to Barasat State General Hospital and Narayana Multi-speciality Hospital in the district.

In another incident, three people were injured in English Bazar in Malda district while trying to make firecrackers.

While the police have claimed they were injured while making firecrackers, the injured undergoing treatment in Malda Medical College and Hospital, have claimed unidentified assailants hurled crude bombs at them.
