Delhi celebrates Eid-ul-Azha

New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS): The national capital celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with thousands of Muslims thronging mosques to offer prayers Monday.

"Around two lakh people offered prayers at the mosque for peace and unity in the country," Maulana Mufti Mohammed Mukkaram, Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid in old Delhi, told IANS.

On the auspicious day, Muslims across Delhi greeted each other and distributed meat of the sacrificed animals among friends, relatives and the poor.

Animals are sacrificed to commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).

Besides, biryani, korma and other delicacies are also prepared on the occasion.

"We are expecting guests in the evening so that we can feast together," Mohammad Zeeshan, a resident of Chandni Chowk, told IANS.
