22 IS fighters die in airstrikes in Iraq

Baghdad, Oct 7 (IANS/EFE) At least 22 Islamic State(IS) fighters were killed Monday in airstrikes by the international coalition in Iraq, according to Mohammed Ibrahim al-Bayati, head of the Nineveh provincial security committee.

He said the US-led coalition's airstrikes targeted Badush, 20 km west of Mosul, and Laski, 40 km from the same city, capital of Nineveh province.

IS seized control of Mosul in June.

Al-Bayati indicated that in addition to the 22 insurgents were killed, the raids destroyed seven vehicles used by the jihadis.

A source at Tel Afar hospital in northern Iraq told EFE that the institution admitted at least 17 militants who had been wounded in the bombing.

Led by the US, the international coalition has been supporting Iraqi authorities in their fight against IS, carrying out airstrikes on the militants' positions in Syria and Iraq.
