Srinagar-Jammu highway closed for three days


Srinagar, Oct 8 (IANS): The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway No.1A will remain closed for three days beginning Thursday evening for urgent repairs.

According to Inspector General of Police (IGP-Traffic) Muneer Ahmad Khan, one portion of hillside at Gangroo (Ramsoo) in Ramban district of the highway has developed cracks and needs urgent repairs.

The Border Roads Organisation that maintains the highway has recommended closing down of the national highway for three days.

Khan said: "Accordingly, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway shall remain closed Oct 9-11."

"No movement of vehicular traffic will be allowed on these days. However, to facilitate the passengers, transportation of fruit and essential commodities, the passenger service vehicle (LMVs only), empty oil tankers, empty trucks and fruit load carriers (medium size) can use Mughal Road from Srinagar to Jammu after getting clearance from the district administration concerned."

He added: "Similarly, all types of vehicles of the above said category intending to move to the valley can use Synthan Top-Kishtwar route on these days."
