14 hurt in KL blast, police rule out IS role

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 9 (IANS): Fourteen people were injured in a grenade blast here Thursday but police have ruled out an Islamic State hand in the explosion.

"The blast was not connected to IS militants, but could be due to misunderstanding or an act of revenge," thestar.com reported quoting Deputy Chief Assistant Commissioner Khairy Ahrasa.

Among the injured in the blast at the Sun Complex in Jalan Bukit Bintang are two Chinese nationals, two Singaporeans and a Thai. All the victims have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

It was learnt that the explosion happened beneath a car that was parked in the area. Another unexploded device, also believed to be a grenade, was found underneath another car.

A bomb disposal squad was attempting to defuse the second device.
