Four policemen killed in Iran

Tehran, Oct 9 (IANS): At least four Iranian police personnel were killed in attacks by terrorist groups in eastern Iran, near the border with Pakistan, media reported Thursday.

A car bomb attack on a police station in the border city left one police officer dead and three injured Thursday morning in Saravan city, a police official said.

The attack came a day after three police officers were killed in a rebel ambush in the city Wednesday evening, Tasnim News Agency quoted the official as saying.

Jaish-al-Adl, a Sunni extremist rebel group based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks.

The Pakistani-based group has carried out terrorist activities in the area earlier also.

In February, the terrorist group had abducted five Iranian border guards and taken them to Pakistan.

On April 6 and following special diplomatic efforts by the Iranian officials, four of the five abductees were released and returned home after being held hostage for two months.

The fate of the fifth soldier remains unknown.
