19 killed in China landslide

Beijing, Oct 11 (IANS) At least 19 people have been confirmed dead and two injured in a landslide which occurred Friday evening at a highway construction site in China's Shaanxi province.

Rescuers said the landslide, occurring at about 9.00 p.m. in Yan'an City, broke down eight make-shift boarding houses and buried 21 construction workers. Nine were killed on the spot and the 10 injured died in hospital. Two other wounded are under treatment, Xinhua reported.

The workers came from China Railway No. 3 Group, which undertakes the highway expansion project connecting Huangling City to Yan'an City in Shaanxi.
