IAS officer suspended in Mathura for punishing teacher


Mathura, Oct 12 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended an IAS officer for allegedly punishing a teacher in his office in Mathura district, said a fax message from the Chief Minister's Office.

Abhishek Sing, who is posted as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Mahawan area, was suspended Saturday evening. He is the husband of Durga Shakti Nagpal, whose suspension as the CDO had triggered a controversy.

A teachers' union leaders met Mathura District Magistrate B. Chandrakala to lodge a complaint Friday. They also met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Saturday in Lucknow to apprise him of the incident.

Fauran Singh, an assistant teacher of a secondary school in Jugsuna, was humiliated as Abhishek Sing made him to do sit-ups as punishment for not completing work relating to survey and data gathering in some villages, union leaders said.
