After brief lull in 'Hudhud', more damage expected


New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS): Cyclonic storm 'Hudhud' is now crossing Andhra Pradesh's Vishakhapatnam city and the wind speed is 150 to 180 km per hour, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials here.

IMD Director General L.S. Rathod said there will be a brief lull over Vishakhapatnam as the eye of the cyclone crosses, and then the "reverse winds" have "great damage potential".

There will also be one- to two-metre surge in the sea.

Wind speed in Odisha is at present lesser at 60 to 70 km per hour.

The weatherman said once the cyclone hits the coast, it will lose 50 percent of its intensity in next six hours, and another 50 percent will be lost in subsequent six hours. After that there will a depression in the storm.

Apart from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, heavy rainfall will also be experienced in Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, and east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Telangana, the IMD official said.
