Coal block: Court summons former secretary

New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS): A Delhi court Monday rejected the closure report filed in the coal block allocation case against Madhya Pradesh-based Kamal Sponge Steel and Power Ltd. and summoned the firm, one of its directors and former coal secretary H.C. Gupta as accused.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Bharat Parashar summoned the Madhya Pradesh-based company and its director Pavan Ahluwalia, senior official Amit Goyal, and Gupta as accused in the case.

The court directed Gupta, Ahluwalia and Goyal to appear before it Oct 31 after rejecting the CBI' closure report.

The court took cognizance of the offences under sections dealing with criminal conspiracy, cheating and various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI has lodged an FIR accusing the company and others of allegedly misrepresenting facts, including inflated net worth, to acquire coal blocks.

After the probe, the CBI filed a closure report saying it has not found sufficient evidence against the firm and its director to proceed with the case.
