MH17 victim conferred with Master's degree

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 15 (IANS): Elisabeth Ng Lye Ti, a victim of the crashed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, was conferred her masters in management degree, media reported Wednesday.

Her elder sister Shi Yan received the scroll on her behalf at Kuala Lumpur's University of Malaya's convocation ceremony held Tuesday, The Malaysian Star reported.

Faculty of Business and Accountancy dean Nazari Ismail said that Elisabeth had completed more than 80 percent of her masters programme and deserved to be conferred her degree.

He said Elisabeth had a year left with one subject and one research project to go before graduating.

He also explained that the Aegrotat system was a university tradition that would confer a degree when a student passed away for any reason.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, was shot down in eastern Ukraine July 17, killing all 298 people on board.
