Rs.1 crore ex-gratia for killed Delhi Police constable's kin

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS): Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Wednesday announced Rs.1 crore as compensation to the next of kin of the Delhi Police constable killed by criminals while performing his duty.

In a statement from the Lt. Governor's house, Jung said: "I pay tribute to the departed soul, who laid down his life, while serving our nation. May his family bear the loss with strength and fortitude."

Constable Jagbir was killed and constable Narender sustained serious injuries after being fired upon in west Delhi's Vijay Vihar Monday when they were on patrol duty.

Constable Jagbir Singh's family will be paid Rs.1 crore as compensation, the statement said.

Tuesday, Delhi's former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asked Jung to provide Rs.1 crore as assistance to the family of Jagbir. He had also written to Jung urging him to provide government employment to a member of Jagbir's family.

During the 49-day tenure of the Aam Aadmi Party, Kejriwal had granted Rs.1 crore financial assistance, one of the highest compensations, to the family of a Delhi Police constable who was allegedly beaten to death by suspected liquor mafia goons.
