Lebanese army repels IS attack

Beirut, Oct 15 (IANS/EFE): The Lebanese army has prevented terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group from infiltrating the northeastern Lebanese town of Wadi Rafeq where they intended to seize control of positions that belong to the armed forces, local radio reported Wednesday.

In another incident, Lebanese troops, with the help of members of the Shia Hezbollah organisation, repelled the jihadis who were trying to gain control over several strategic hills, according to the LBC television channel.

IS fighters, members of the Nusra Front, which is the Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, and other groups clashed with Lebanese troops in August when 19 people died, 86 were injured and 27 soldiers were abducted.
