In Gurgaon, men from Nagaland thrashed, One man's head was shaved

GURGAON, Oct 16 (Agencies) : Two young men from Nagaland, both in their 20s, were hospitalized this morning after they were allegedly beaten for nearly three hours in the room they were renting in a village in Gurgaon near Delhi.

Awang and Chester say a group of at least seven people burst into their room and hit them repeatedly with cricket bats and sticks from midnight to 3 am. Chester says he was pinned down while his head was shaved by the gang. He claims that before leaving, the assaulters warned, "Tell your North East people to leave Sikanderpur."

The police says it has filed a case and Awang and Chester are helping identify their attackers.

Sikanderpur, which is nearly a kilometre away from the large malls in Gurgaon, is home to many North Easterners. One of them, a man named Li Hangshing - in his early 30s - told NDTV that meetings were held by landlords in the area over two months ago and it was decided that tenants from the North East will be asked to move out. Locals allege that people from the North East get drunk and cause trouble in the area.

It only appears that the hired goons have thrashed these North-East youth and the same is likely in the Bangalore case. From my personal experience, the North-East youth be it of any caste & religion are the most quiet lot compared to other states. On language issue, let's talk of our State Capital, where overwhelming majority of Security Staff are from north-indians and strictly speak in hindi, for years. We are forced to converse with them in hindi to get information we need. Why those complaining on talking the local language don't hear these Security-lot being bashed on lanugage issue inspite of all types of nuisance created by most of them. So it only goes to prove an unknown reason for targeting the NE youth and language and behavior is an excuse, when the other outside-lots can be tolerated. Finally, the governing authority should deal severely with those taking law in to their hand, specially on the people from outside state, since we are a diverse country and unity of our country should not be at stake.

If North-East fellows should learn Kannada when working in Bengaluru then what about those Tamils, Malayalis, Telugu-speaking, Hindi-speaking people from North India, and others who are employed as well as settled in Bengaluru? Are all of them know the Kannada language? Are those 'Goondas' who attacked the Manipuri guys are prepared or even capable of confronting those Tamils, etc., in Bengaluru? With regard to the matter regarding the Nagaland guys been thrashed in Gurgaon, what the Constitution of India says? Are the concerned Authorities doing enough to safeguard the rights of the individuals to live in peace and security in the country?

Unfortunately the states in India are divided by language...unlike in other countries where the language is almost the same except for different dialects....some are commenting that North east fellows should learn Kannada when working in Bangalore? What nonsense! These guys come to Bangalore for a 5-10 year period to study or work, do you honestly expect them to learn a new language? How many South Kanara or Indian people who have been working for 10, 20, 30 years in Gulf know Arabic????

The attacks look well co-ordinated. So, till the time the brains are cornered and found what they want to achieve, this kind of attacks may continue. It is usually some hired goonda's get caught, who know nothing. Police will pat themselves having caught the culprits, where as the real one could be enjoying himself, sitting in a AC room.

North eastern citizens too have equal rights anywhere in India as you and me.
But when you are educated enough to migrate, you should learn to be a Roman in Rome. These NEs, when migrated to other parts, are cut lose and indulge in extremes like drinking in public, walking around in undergarments etc.
The problem with North easterns is that they work in the city and dwell in outskirts where people are more orthodox and do not like NE boys and girls clinging to each other in public in flimsy clothes, drinking in open and causing disturbances to all surrounding them.

Sickening part is that most of the NE boys are lean, and they have the least idea about when to stop drinking. later they vomit all the way to their rooms and this is an everyday routine.

So when we are preaching about tolerance to the people of Bangalore, Gudgaon etc., some one should educate the migrated NEs to respect the culture of the area they live in.

Be roman in rome. Very true.

I really feel disgusted when I see their pant half down on underwear..

They should learn local language also. We have respect for our language and culture. When they are enjoying all facilities in Bangalore, what is the problem for them to learn Kannada.. They want education, jobs, luxury life etc, why can't they respect our language too.

On one hand you say North eastern citizens have equal rights in India. On the other hand you say be a Roman in Rome. Are we one country or many countries? Till what level will you go to impose restrictions on Indians - state, district, taluka, city, ... ? And is the punishment thrashing and beating?
