Intensify sanitation drive in Delhi: Jung

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS): Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Monday called for intensification of cleanliness and sanitation drive in Delhi at a meeting, saying "there has to be visible improvement, supported by evidence".

In two separate meetings here, Jung met Delhi's government officials and mayors, chairmen of standing committees and commissioners of all three municipal corporations(north, south and east), respectively, where he said that there can't be any complacency in making Delhi clean by 2019.

He said: "To achieve the target of making Delhi into a world-class international city, together with fulfilling the promise of making Delhi clean by 2019, there cannot be any complacency in the government machinery or in the local bodies."

He added: "The time has come for us to intensify the drive and it must be demonstrated through actual visible change all across the city... there has to be visible improvement, supported by evidence."

Jung gave certain directions to the officials, including departmental heads or secretaries to be the nodal officers in charge of all cleanliness-related matters of the department; deputy commissioners shall verify the work done in their districts and submit an independent report.

"Oct 25, all officers, including secretaries shall be in the field, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation. They will submit a report at the end of the same day," said the statement.

Jung has also asked the municipal department to pay attention to garbage collection, public works department has been directed to pay particular attention to roads, central verges, among others while transport department has been asked to ensure cleanliness around bus stands and bus depots.
