Mumbai, Oct 20: Well known author and journalist G P Basavaraju gave a special lecture on 'Sahitya Chintana -12' a programme of discussion on literature held by Sahitya Bharati of Karnataka Sangha, Mumbai.
He said, “If there is nobody to show hospitality wherever we go, then languages will become futile. If we do not know the regional language, the prestige and the pride of our language would go down. It is therefore true to say that the essence exists in our mother tongue. The people in Mumbai who have given us pride to honour their mother tongue are the lovers of language. There are no ups and downs in language. Language therefore is a voice of people”.
“There is a close relationship between language, culture and literature among people in Mumbai. While there is love and communication here, there is an interest to learn different languages. That is a reason why different languages have grown here”, he added.
Former president M M Kory and former vice-president Dr Bharathkumar Polipu felicitated G P Basavaraju with a shawl and memento.
B G Nayak, Somnath Karkera, S K Bhavani and others participated in the discussions that followed. Sangha honorary secretary Srinivasa Jokatte welcomed, introduced Basavaraju and compered the programme. Dr Bharathkumar Polipu proposed vote of thanks.
