NHRC notice to Bihar over a boy's murder

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Wednesday issued notice to the Bihar government over the alleged killing of a 15-year-old boy by a goup of upper caste men.

According to the Commission, the victim, Sai Ram, was burnt alive by the group Oct 15 after his goat wandered into one of the accused's field in Mohanpur village in Rohtas district.

"Reportedly, one of the accused-- Kumkum Singh and his three associates forcibly entered the victim's house and poured kerosene on him before setting him on fire," said the commission.

The boy sustained 90 percent burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby government hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Taking suo motu cognizance, the NHRC issued a notice to the chief secretary of Bihar along with the state's director general of police calling for a report within four weeks.
