Mangalore, Oct 25: 'Sangeet Guru' Joel Pereira has been unanimously selected to receive the 'Kalakar Puraskar 2006' conferred by Mandd Sobhann and instituted by Carvalho household and Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr, Alto Porvorim, Goa, stated a press release issued here.

According to the release, Joel has been selected in recognition of his vast contribution to Konkani music for the past 25 years.

The award will be presented by Fr Denis D'Sa on Sunday November 5 at 6 pm at the monthly theatre (Goem Gazota) programme at Kalaangann, the release stated.

The annual award, which consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, a title and a memento is conferred on artists who contribute considerably to Konkani theatre or music.
