Light rain, snowfall in Himachal


Shimla, Oct 25 (IANS) The hills across Himachal Pradesh experienced light rain and snowfall early Saturday, pushing down the temperatures by some notches.

The Met department's forecast has said that Western disturbances - storm systems originating from the Mediterranean Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region - would remain active in the region till Sunday.

The day was cloudy in Shimla and a minimum temperature of 10.6 degrees Celsius was recorded.

Manali received light rainfall of 1.2 mm. It experienced a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, a fall from Friday's 7 degrees.

Kalpa, 250 km from Shimla, and Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district experienced light rainfall. The night temperature at these towns was 4.8 degrees and 3.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

Kalpa and Keylong Friday had a minimum temperature of 5 degrees and 6 degrees Celsius respectively.

Dharamsala recorded a low of 12.8 degrees Celsius.

"High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur and Shimla districts have been experiencing mild snowfall since early Saturday," a Met official said.
