Mumbai, Oct 27: The two day Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Kannada Kala Kendra, Mumbai were held at Dr Vishweshwaraya hall of Karnataka Sangha, Mumbai at Mahim west on Saturday, October 25. Kalakendra president Bylooru Balachandra Rao chaired the celebrations. Senior author and littérateur Dr Sunitha M Shetty inaugurated the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunitha Shetty said "Kalakendra is an example to show that people in Mumbai are leading in nurturing arts.The organization is trying to explicate arts in order to pass it on to the next generation. The future of arts will be strengthened if art flows like flowing water instead of being stagnant."
Balachandra Rao in his presidential address said "Kala Kendra is serving arts for the last seven and a half decades. It is a matter of pride that the organization is celebrating diamond jubilee after fulfilling the aspirations of its founders. The contribution of workers and artists in it has been unique. The organization will continue to be in the service of arts and it will be a platform for new talents."
Arts patron S T Upadhyaya Kalyan and Kala Sarathi Karnooru Mohan Rai present on the occasion spoke praising the art work and conveyed their best wishes. Retired teachers Anasooya Ullal, Nalini Kotian and Leelavathi Shetty were felicitated on the occasion.
Kalakendra vice president Shimunje Parari(S M Shetty), honorary vice president Dr P G Rao, honorary chief secretary Madhusoodan T R, joint secretary Ramesh Birthi, members Navin Shetty Innabalike, Vishwanath Dodmane, Vasanth K Shetty, Shailini Rao, K Srinivasa Bhat and Geetha Bhat were present.
Malathi Chandrakanth welcomed and compered the programme.
Dance artiste Bala Vishwanath and music scholar Sukanya Prabhakar gave a lecture. Different art associations presented dances and group songs.
A comedy drama titled 'Sambandagalu' directed by Basuma was shown by Amogha Udupi.
