Kundapur, Oct 28: "The union government has released Rs 12 crore for repair works on MH 17 which has been a pathetic condition for long.  The union minister K H Muniappa has sanctioned the money towards this," said union labour minister Oscar Fernandes.

He was speaking to the press persons during his first visit to the district after being sworn in as union minister on Friday October 27.  He had come to Gandhi Maidan here to participate in the silver jubilee celebrations of taluk-level autorickshaw, taxi drivers' association.

When he was alerted about the district in-charge minister's comments that the union government had not released money for repair of NH 17 despite appeals from state government he said "let them do the repair works from their funds.  The union government will reimburse it later."
