IPTL announces team coaches

Dubai, Oct 28 (IANS): Organisers of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) Tuesday announced the names of coaches for the four franchises of the tournament, based in Asian cities - Manila, Singapore, New Delhi and Dubai.

Australians Joshua Eagle and David Macpherson were named coaches of the Singapore Slammers and the UAE Royals respectively, while Frenchman Fabrice Santoro and the Philippines' Treat Huey will be player-cum-coaches for the Indian Aces and the Manila Mavericks teams respectively.

The first edition of the tournament will be played from Nov 28 to Dec 13.

Slammers coach Joshua, a doubles specialist with five Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) doubles titles to his name, was the coach of the Australian Davis Cup team in January 2013 and won Tennis Australia's elite coaching excellence award in 2012 for helping Australian Marinko Matosevic break into the top-50 in singles rankings.

Royals coach Macpherson was also a doubles specialist, winning 16 titles on the ATP tour and currently coaches top-ranked American doubles players Bob and Mike Bryan.

Santoro holds several ATP records and has made an unbeaten 70 appearances in singles competition at Grand Slam events. He is also the only male player to have appeared in Grand Slam singles competitions in four different decades.

Huey, currently ranked World No.40 in doubles rankings, has reached three finals on the ATP World Tour. Huey reached his career-high doubles ranking of World No.21 in November 2013.

The first edition of the new tournament will be played across five single-set matches involving men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles and past champion singles.
