Mangalore, Oct 29: Former United States President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter presented Carter Foundation Award - The First Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership award in India to Sr Carmel Rita, the Principal of St Agnes College, Mangalore at a function in New Delhi on Friday, October 27, 2006.

The partnership award is part of the US President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter partnership foundation for conducting awareness in watershed development and rainwater harvesting as a Community Development Project in rural areas.

Charles Pais and Clement, lecturers of the College together with NSS students of the College had introduced awareness in watershed development and rainwater harvesting under the campus community development programme in Kirem, near Vamanjoor. 

The US President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter partnership foundation had invited to submit the Community Development Project from the Universities and Colleges on the web site www.grepf.org.

St Agnes College had sent in 4 projects out of which Water Shed Management Project was selected for the finalist to be presented in New Delhi in the presence of the President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn.

Out of the 3 finalists St Agnes College was announced as the winner during the formal function on October 27, 2006 at 9 pm by Rosalynn Carter.

The Award includes a Golden Globe, Carter Partnership Award Certificate and cash of $10,000.
