German duo to ring in 100 year celebrations of Calcutta music school


Kolkata, Oct 30 (IANS): A German musician duo will present timeless compositions of the stalwarts of Western classical music at a fundraiser, part of Calcutta School of Music's (CSM) centenary celebrations here Friday.

Pianist Siegfried Mauser and soprano Amelie Sandmann-Mauser will perform at a fundraiser at the Oberoi Grand.

They will perform along with the CSM Orchestra, conducted by Sanjib Mondol, a statement from CSM read.

The artistes will create an ambience of tranquility by playing the compositions of greats such as Mozart, Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi.

Siegfried is a pianist, a professor of musicology, president of the College of Music and Theatre, Munich and the rector of the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

Amelie Sandmann was educated in Barcelona, Rome, London and Munich and she is an accomplished singer and actress, straddling the multiple formats of TV, film, theatre and opera.

Mondal is the resident conductor of the Calcutta Chamber Orchestra. He has performed solo concerts, sonatas, chamber music and orchestras in India and abroad.
