Mangalore, Oct 30: A marathon was flagged off at End Point, Manipal here on Sunday October 29, in which P M Shahnawaz of MEG, Bangalore and Yashoda of Alva's College, Moodbidri won in the men's and women's categories respectively.

State minister for health R Ashok flagged off the event. In the men's category, the runner-up was Santosh of MEG, followed by Sunil Fatan, Prakash Bhosle, Munna Mahli, D R Sawant, Y R Darshan, Narinder Singh, Ganesh Shettar and Taranath K in that order.

In the women's category, Tishoni of Alva's College secured the runner-up berth while V K Priyanka of VPS, Dharwad, Sridevi Patil of KCDC, Vidya K of Government PU College, Beltangady, Akshata K of Government High School, Uppur, Mahadevi of KCDC, Malathi of SMS College, Brahmavar and Prithvi  secured third to tenth positions respectively.

Minister for medical education and district in-charge minister V S Acharya, pro-vice-chancellor of MAHE H S Ballal and MLA K Raghupati Bhat also took part in the marathon.

Sixty-five-year old K L Patil of Mysore, who had taken part in international full marathon in Bangalore and other full marathons, also participated and was awarded a special prize for completing the run.

About 1000 people participated in the event.
