Mangalore, Oct 31: Bendur parishioners have an occasion to celebrate. One of the prominent parishes under Mangalore Diocese with more than 7,000 parishioners, it now has a renovated grotto of Mother Mary.
On the evening of Tuesday, October 31, Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza inaugurated the renovated grotto at a programme held in the church precincts.
The grotto was originally constructed in 1943 and its renovation was sponsored by Tushar Pinto.
The church also installed a new gate which was blessed by the Bishop. The main gates and landscape near the gates were sponsored Takasha Pinto. Both Tushar and Takasha are children of Capt Melville and Jean Pinto.
Installation of a new crucifix next to the grotto has been sponsored by Leo Pinto and his sons, in memory of the late Merlin Pinto.
Vice-president Rudolph D'Silva, parish priest Fr Peter S Noronha, assistant parish priests Fr Boniface Pinto and Fr Francis Rodrigues were present on the occasion.
