Prime Minister Narendra Modi a 'Great Orator', Says Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI) : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, in an interview to the Press Trust of India, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a "great orator" and has sent all the "right" messages but felt that the delivery of his promises were "very low".

Mr Kejriwal also suggested that Prime Minister Modi has brought some positivity in the country in the last five months, adding only time will tell whether the aspirations of the people will be fulfilled or not.

"He (Modi) is a great orator and he has spoken the right things. But delivery is very low. So let's see what happens," the former Delhi Chief Minister told PTI in an interview.

The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who had unsuccessfully challenged Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha polls in Varanasi, criticised the NDA government for failing to keep its poll promises, saying people in the country were still yearning for change. However, he said the hopes of the people have not died down.

"They (NDA) have raised the hopes but they have been very poor on delivery so far. The hopes of the people have not died down. They still exist. People still feel things will change.

But everybody says nothing has happened so far," said Mr Kejriwal, who had led AAP to a stunning performance in the Delhi assembly polls in December last year.

Asked whether PM Modi's dispensation was successful in bringing some positivity to the country, the 46-year-old former Delhi chief minister said, "That is exactly what... The previous government had done nothing. It was involved in all negative things. It was involved in corruption and price rise. The corruption and prise rise are still there.

The old government has gone and this dispensation has given a new hope. Time will tell whether aspirations will be fulfilled or not," the AAP leader said.

On whether he felt PM Modi emerged as a strong Prime Minister compared to his predecessor, the AAP leader said that PM Modi, "speaks very well and sends the right kind of message. Lets see what happens on the delivery part."

Kejriwal reiterated that the action on the part of NDA government was missing and gave examples of high prices of essential commodities. He also alleged corruption in Delhi which is under the President's Rule.

"In Delhi, potato is being sold at Rs. 45 per kg. Nothing moves in Delhi without paying money. That is why people are asking when will they start work. Action is missing," he said.

Queried whether AAP will face a stiff opposition from the BJP due to PM Modi's stature, Mr Kejriwal said people in the city still remember his 49-day-long government which had drastically cut power and water rates besides bringing various reform measures.

"AAP spoke very less but it was very high on action. The work we did in 49 days is in people's mind. It was a dream for people," he said.

Sounding confident of AAP's victory if assembly polls are held in Delhi, Mr Kejriwal said BJP was not ready to face the polls as they know the "reality".

"We are confident of our victory. The BJP is not ready to face the polls as they know the ground reality," he said.

Asked to comment on NDA's 'Swachh Bharat' initiative, Mr Kejriwal said it was high on symbolism and that there was a need to bringing "systemic reforms" to ensure proper cleanliness.

"It is high on symbolism. It is high on messaging because it draws everyone's attention towards keeping your surroundings clean. They asked every person to take a pledge of spending two hours per week on cleaning. I do not think even their cabinet ministers are spending two hours per week on cleanliness. Nobody has done it," Mr Kejriwal said.

"We need systemic changes in municipal bodies. You have to give municipal workers right environment, right equipment.

You have to solve their problems. You will have to fix their accountability. Till we address systemic issues, how can you expect cleanliness," he said.

The government led by Mr Kejriwal had resigned on 14 February after the party's pet project, the Janlokpal Bill, could not be passed due to opposition from BJP and Congress.

Kejriwal later contested the Lok Sabha polls in Varanasi where PM Modi defeated him.

A nation cannot run on fancy speeches and rhetoric.

He talks of women empowerment and retains an alleged rapist - Nihalchand in his ministry.

He talks of keeping away corrupt and criminals from his team and then Yeddi and Amit are elevated to the position of VP and President.

He talks of reducing prices before elections and 6 months later Prices continue to rise. (Pak reduces fuel prices by more than 9 Rs and he reduces only 3 bucks).

He talks of crediting 15 lakhs to our account (see his 2013 tweet for proof) and then he says that no one knows how much money is in foreign accounts.

All talk..... BJP = Party of hypocrities.

At least he does that and the citizens of India as well as NRI's have respected it. But for the first time in Indian political era we could hear a lot what a PM can do and think about. His brilliant ideas, connecting to the people, reaching to a common man... no earlier PMS 9 at least since few decades ) have done these things. The disciplines he is introducing, making her ministers to adhere to the disciplinary rules, time management which was a major issue in the governance... what not. advanced thoughts which also fascinated all the Enginner sectors also. So, what ever you try to project him as a feku or cheater... people of India have accepted him as their future. Nobody AAP or Congi or any other party leaders will be able to impact Modi's publicity and respcet he already earned.

What is the use of giving the best preaching to a hungry man? People of India are tired of such hypocrites. What we want is action. Prove what he said during the elections that in 60 months he will transform India and in 100 days he will get black money into India. Atleast let him tell his NDA MPs to their Assets & income returns which is mandatory and not done till now. As per newspaper reports 400 odd MPs are yet to . Practice before you Preach. The need of the hour is "Doctor heal thyself".

@ Mohan, Its not Modi MAGIC, he is just lucky to have crude prices decreased by 25% after 7 yrs. Since India has already deregulated petrol prices in 2010 (and Diesel recently), the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will fix the prices in line with the international prices. In plain words, the markets decide the price and not the government. This is temporary relief linked to Modi MAGIC. Wait crude oil's Acche Din will come soon. #HavePatience.

Cleanliness is everyone's responsibility.Did Modi instructed city corporations and municipalities to set up waste treatment units.Did he the funds for that. You and me can not go to the streets everyday to clean. There are accountable departments for that, however they are not well equipped. You are in Qatar, have you seen anywhere stingy places and littered streets in Qatar. Surly you may be knowing how the waste is being managed in Qatar. Does not mean that in India people do not know about it. They know much better and need will power with people's participation and Govt's administrative actions using modern technologies to keep Bharath swatch.

Yes of course. Modi's oratory skills are proven.
But delivery of promise made should be proven.
People will hope and wait for some time.
If no benefits are seen as promised in election, as congress, is routed, BJP will also.
AAP, Third front will forge alliance with communists.
Regional parties too are estranged from BJP and going closer to third front to challenge hegemony of BJP.
Political equations are fast changing, time can only reveal its pros and cons.
