Man held for extortion bid in Gurgaon


Gurgaon, Nov 4 (IANS): A 21-year-old man was Tuesday arrested for trying to extort Rs.1 crore from a businessman here, police said.

Arun Kumar, a resident of Bas Kusla village near Manesar, was arrested for demanding the money from Rajesh Aggarwal, who owns saree showrooms in Gurgaon.

The accused was known to the trader and he often visited Aggarwal's business outlets.

"He first snatched a mobile phone from a vendor near Tau Devi Lal stadium on Sohna road and another phone from a second person. He then used the SIM card of the first phone in the second handset and made extortion calls from it Oct 27," said Joint Commissioner of Police Vivek Sharma.

With the help of the cyber crime cell, he was arrested by the police crime branch from IMT Manesar area.

He was presented in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Sharma, who sent him to one- day police custody.

The accused, who posed as a gangster, is a Class 12 passout.

He had given Nov 10 as the deadline to deliver the money and threatened to shoot the trader if the money was not delivered.
