Public sector vital to Make in India campaign: Pranab

New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday said the country's public sector enterprises were vital to the 'Make In India' campaign and expressed confidence that they would continue to take the lead in the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign.

Speaking at the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) meritorious awards event held at Vigyan Bhawan here, Mukherjee mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign which aims to transform India into a global manufacturing hub.

"I believe that our CPSEs have a vital role in making this a reality. They have, over the years, established excellent manufacturing facilities in various parts of the country," the President said.

"We have one of the largest markets in the world and there is no dearth of demand for competitively priced, quality products. We should aim not only at catering to our huge domestic demand but also towards high quality product development and greater access to foreign markets," he said.

Acknowledging CPSE's (Central Public Sector Enterprises) contribution in implementing the government's social and economic policies, Mukherjee expressed confidence that they would continue to take the lead in the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign and other socially oriented schemes.

The President further drew their attention to the need to "innovate while doing business".

"An ever changing and dynamic business scenario throws up newer and complex challenges which call for innovative solutions," he said.
