Two suspected militants killed in Yemen

Sanaa, Nov 6 (IANS): At least two suspected Al Qaeda militants were killed Thursday in a US drone strike in Yemen.

The unmanned US aircraft fired a missile, hitting a motorcycle in Mudiyah town of Abyan province,an official told Xinhua.

Mudiyah used to be a stronghold of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

The identities of the victims have not yet been determined, but a Yemeni security official in Abyan said that authorities were "verifying reports that both militants" were from the AQAP.

Thursday's drone attack came only one day after a similar one in central Yemen, which killed Shawki al-Badani, who was identified as an AQAP leader, and Shawki Ali Ahmed al-Badani, an operative.

The AQAP emerged in January 2009 and is also known as Ansar al-Sharia.
