Al Ain (UAE), Nov 6 (IANS): Shooter Ankur Mittal helped India claim its fourth gold medal, winning the top spot in men's double trap at the fourth Asian Shotgun Championship here Thursday.
The 22-year-old shot 141 in the qualification round and managed scores of 28 out of 30 in both the semi-final and the gold medal match to emerge as the winner.
Teammate Mohammad Asab bagged the bronze with a score of 27.
“Ankur has come up the junior ranks really well and finished a creditable 16th in a top field at the Shooting World Championships in Granada earlier in the year. This is his best in international competition so far and we expect more improvement and greater things from him going forward," Raninder Singh, president, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said in a release Thursday.
"It is heartening to see youngsters perform with such aplomb in top international competitions and bodes really well for the future of the shooting sport in India.”
