Top guerrilla commander arrested in Kashmir


Srinagar, Nov 8 (IANS): Security forces Saturday arrested a top commander of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit in Sopore town in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

On receiving information regarding the presence of a top JeM commander in the Yumberzalwari forests in Sopore in Baramulla district, a joint operation was launched by police from Srinagar, Sopore and personnel from 27 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF's 179 battalion.

JeM's divisional commander Sadeeq Ahmad alias Sadiq, son of Ghulam Sarwar Cheehi, a resident of Haripore in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, was arrested in the operation, a police statement said.

One AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 70 AK-series rounds were seized from him.
