Modi meets Myanmar president, discusses ties


Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar), Nov 11 (IANS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Myanmar President Thein Sein here.

"Had a very good meeting with President Thein Sein. We had extensive discussions covering various aspects of our bilateral relations," Modi tweeted after the meeting.

"We talked about strengthening ties in the fields of culture, commerce & enhancing connectivity," Modi said in another tweet.

Earlier in the day, the indian prime minister arrived in the country on a two-day visit when will also be attending the East Asia Summit and the 25th Asean summit scheduled to be held Nov 12-13.

"Landed in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, to a very warm welcome! Great being in this beautiful country," Modi tweeted. He also posted a picture.

Modi was given a guard of honour on his arrival and welcomed by people dressed in their traditional attires.

India sees Myanmar as a "natural bridge" to southeast Asia.
