Mangalore, Nov 7: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike will organise 'Souharda Saptaha' a week-long campaign in the state from Saturday 18 to Sunday November 26, said Vedike secretary K L Ashok.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday November 6, he said that the programme is being held in the wake of the recent violence in the city and is targeted towards creating public awareness against those who are disturbing communal peace and harmony.

Human rights activist Teesta Setalvad, seer Jayamrithyunjaya Swamiji of DavangereVikrata math, Venkataswamy of Samata Sainik Dal, R Prasad of Raitha Sangha, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti state president Lakshminarayana Nagavar and writer G Rajashekhar are expected to be present for the inauguration.

The inaugural function will be held in the city on Saturday November 18 and the valedictory will be at Bangalore on Sunday November 26. Social activist Medha Patkar, Jnanpeeth awardees Girish Karnad, Dr U R Ananthamurthy, Booker prize winner Arundati Roy, seers Tontadarya Swamiji from Gadag, Shivamurthy Murugarajendra Sharana of Chitradurga and others will be present for the valedictory.

About 50,000 people will participate in the programme, Ashok said.

Among those present at the press meet were Vedike members Mohammed Kakkinje, Umar U H and Suresh Bhat of PUCL.
