Wilfy memorial singing contest - 30 singers gear up for finals

Mangaluru, Nov 13: Following the stupendous success of 'Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Inter-Parish Contest' from the last 3 consecutive years - a mega Konkani singing talent show has been organized on Sunday, November 16th at Jeppu Church grounds at 5.30 pm.








Mangaluru’s 30 talented singers from different parishes are well prepared and awaiting for 16th November to set the Jeppu Church stage on fire. It’s going to be a tough competition as stated by the organizing team and eminent qualified judges who are experienced, qualified and capable - to choose the finest voices have been selected for this event.
There is an immense enthusiasm among the participants and one can definitely see this during the rehearsals. The organizing committee members are trying to put their best efforts for an entertaining show on Sunday evening.

All the 30 contestants will perform different songs from the compositions of legend Wilfy Rebimbus. There will be a wide range of entertainment from the parishioners and Wilfy’s family members. The qualifying round was held earlier in October and the parishes qualified for the grand finale are Angelore, Bondel, Cordel, Derebail, Bajjody, Bondel, Milagres, Vamanjoor and Valencia. The contest promises to be a tough battle between 9 parishes of the diocese with rendition of most of Wilfy’s best songs.


CGS Taccode

The compere for the evening will be Cyril Gregory Sequeira, popularly known as CGS Taccode. He is a well-known Konkani writer particularly in the humour genre who has written several stories, poems and humorous works for the past forty years. He has been compering this event for the 3rd consecutive year. He received the prestigious 'Konkani Kutam Award' this year. He is a close associate of the Rebimbus family.


The eminent judges for the finals are:



Fr Denis D’Sa

He is currently the Public relations officer, Udupi diocese and the Parish Priest of St Antony’s Church, Kuntal Nagar, Udupi. He was the administrator of Father Muller Medical College, College of Nursing, College of Allied Health Sciences and School of Nursing. He is a well known talented priest in the city. He has a vast experience in the field of music. Being a singer and a composer himself, Fr Denis has composed many hymns and brought out many devotional albums. He has talents for singing, oratory and directing music. He has produced and directed many Religious CDs.

He has conducted more than 300 Seminars on Media Education, Communication, Value education, Art and Culture, Inter-religious dialogue for High school & College students, Youth & Adults. He has been one of the juries for the Gulf Voice of Mangalore finals Season 3. He was the Director / Secretary Sandesha Foundation for Culture & Education. Fr Denis was a nominated member by The Government Of Karnataka to The Karnataka Konkanni Sahithya Academy. During his tenure as director, Sandesha Foundation was honoured with Rajyothsava Award both by The State Government and The D.K. District Administration for Sandesha’s contribution to the promotion of art and culture and education (fine arts).

Corrine Rasquinha

Corrine Rasquinha is the Founder of White Doves NGO based in Mangalore, founded in the year 1995. She has her masters in Political Science. Her husband Vitus Rasquinha and daughter Gina are her close supporters. White Doves, runs Destitute Homes in Mangalore and is also involved in other philanthropic works of daily feeding the hungry on the streets, providing ration supplies to the needy, educating the poor, building houses for the homeless. Using the God given gift of music to raise funds to carry on the works of White Doves, she is also the Choir Mistress of the White Doves Choir. Has to her credit released 5 Gospel music albums and has travelled to over 18 countries to sing Gospel songs. She plays the guitar and the keyboard. She is the recipient of The Sandesha Special Recognition Award for this year.

Wilson Olivera

Hailing from the popular ‘Padukone’ belonging to Kundapur Deanery of the newly formed Udupi Diocese, Wilson Olivera is one of the renowned artist of current time. Having his love towards his mother tongue ‘Konkani’, music is taken by him as his passion. Started his own compositions by the young age of 16. Began as a singer rendering his voices for several stage shows continuing exhibiting from his own compositions. In addition to his love towards music, Wilson is also a good Story writer and a Dramatist. Several short stories have been published is popular editions like Raknno, Zhelo, Poinnari etc. Having taken the Late Wilfy Rebimbus & Late Jerome D’Souza and as his role model, began his journey in konkani music in the year 1994 with his maiden show at hometown, Padukone.

Following Wilson was seen as a successful composer in the year after with release of several music albums and stage shows in Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain & UAE. He has around 800 music compositions, He has performed 38 Musical Wilson Olivera Nite’s. He has released 7 Musical albums. He is a recipient of Konkani Kala Samaj Puroskar, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Prashasthi and Divo Sahitya Puroskar

He is lover of Wilfy Rebimbus and his songs and is closely associated to his family.


Walter Nandalike

The chief guest for this event will be Walter D’souza - Nandalike, editor-in-chief and Managing Director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd. He is Wilfy’s great fan and a close associate of Rebimbus family. He has compered for 11 Wilfy Nites and has been actively involved in most of their projects.

Speaking to daijiworld, Fr Nelson D’Almedia, parish priest of Jeppu said “The judgment will be based on the day’s performance of the singer and purely on their singing and performance. We have selected the best Judges who have been associated with Konkani Music and Wilfy Rebimbus. Their experience in the music field is tremendous and surely the best singer and performer of the day will grab the title. We wish all the finalists every best in the Grand Finale,” he said.

This event will raise funds for the medical and educational needs of the less fortunate parishioners; hence there is an entrance fee for the event.
