New Zealand, Germany to boost trade ties

Wellington, Nov 14 (IANS): New Zealand and German leaders Friday agreed to support efforts to increase mutual trade and investment during German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Auckland.

Merkel and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key released a joint statement after their meeting, Xinhua reported.

The statement said they welcomed the commitment in the European Union (EU) New Zealand Joint Declaration in March.

The statement also welcomed strong cooperation in science and innovation, which included two new agreements between universities in New Zealand and Germany, as well as broad cooperation in Antarctic research and agricultural technology.

The statement also touched on other areas of agreement, including tackling terrorist threats and measures to deal with Ebola.
