Mangalore, Nov 9: State Minority Commission chairman K S Masood assured that financial assistance in the form of interest-free loan for a three-year period will be extended to those who suffered loss during the recent violence in the district.

This was announced at the grievance redressal meet held at the deputy commissioner's office here on Wednesday November 8.

Apart from compensation, those who lost their shops and businesses will be given interest-free loan equal to 50 per cent of the total loss that was incurred, Masood said.

He also assured of an enquiry in to the violence. As many as 26 petitions were received from victims.

Central Committee vice-president Hameed Kandak cited intelligence failure as the reason for the eruption of violence and alleged that despite knowing that provocative pamphlets were being circulated before the riots, the police did not take action. He further said that the false cases have been booked against many.

Ibrahim Kodikal of Muslim Central Committee urged the administration to ask those who called for the bandh to compensate for the loss incurred.

Commission secretary Safdar Baig, headquarters assistant A J Bhat and deputy SP Harishchandra were present.
