Mangalore, Nov 9: The Home Guards, Civil Defence Forces and Fire Brigade will demonstrate mock rescue and fire fighting shows at Sharada Vidyalaya grounds here on Monday November 13 as part of the National Disaster Reduction Day.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday November 8, deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao said that the programme is aimed at sensitising the public about disaster management. Events like quiz, essay writing, and debate competitions for students will be held on the occasion. Pamphlets carrying information on disaster management will be distributed and relevant banners will be displayed in the city.

A seminar will also be organised on the occasion wherein experts will discuss topics related to disaster management. A mock drill will be conducted at an industrial unit while tall buildings in the city will be examined to check their preparedness during times of disaster, he said.

SP B Dayananda will take part in the programme, he said. Head Quarters assistant A G Bhat was present at the press meet.
