Two wanted for Pakistani Christian couple's murder arrested

Islamabad, Nov 15 (IANS): Two brothers wanted for the killing of a Christian couple for allegedly desecrating the Koran in Pakistan, have been arrested, media reported Saturday.

Both Imran and Irfan of Kot Radha Kishan town of Punjab province were staying at their relative's home in Qadir Colony in Pirmahal, Dawn online reported.

Kot Radha Kishan police traced them through data on their mobile phones and asked Pirmahal and Arrouti police to arrest them.

Police raided the house late Friday night and arrested the two.

The murders occurred Nov 4.

The next day, police arrested 50 villagers who were believed to be part of the mob that beat the couple to death.

Among those arrested was the owner of the brick kiln where 25-year-old Shama, who was pregnant at the time of the incident, and her husband Shahzad Masih worked as bonded labourers.

According to reports, people from three nearby villages tortured the couple before putting them into the kiln's furnace.

Police said a local religious leader had fanned the issue.
