IPL-fixing: BCCI calls emergency meeting on November 18

New Delhi, Nov 15(Zee News): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called an emergency working committee meet on November 18 to discuss the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing and betting case with their lawyers, according to the media reports.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in Chennai.

Earlier, the Indian cricket board had postponed their Annual General Meeting (AGM) by four weeks after the Supreme Court refused to clear the board's president-in-exile N Srinivasan's name from the IPL scandal.

The move by BCCI to postpone the AGM seemingly indicates how desperate the board is to get Srini back at the helm.

On Friday, former BCCI president Shashank Manohar had pointed out that a second postponement was unconstitutional and was being done to suit Srinivasan.

Manohar said that the Board has no authority to postpone the AGM after a decision was taken by the Working Committee. “Once the date of the AGM was fixed by the Working Committee, the same could not and cannot be altered by any Office Bearer of the Board as they do not have authority to do so," he said.

"It is thus evident that the instructions given to the Board counsel are only with an intent to suit Mr Srinivasan as that would ensure that he still remains a back seat driver. The moot question that needs to be answered is - Who gave the Board counsel instructions to plead for postponement of the AGM," he added.

Resuming the hearing on IPL spot-fixing case, the Supreme Court yesterday disclosed four names that were probed by the Justice Mudgal Committee.

The big names included that of ICC boss N Srinivasan, his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra and former IPL CEO Sunder Raman. Meiyappan had already been indicted following an incident where a Forensic Science Laboratory in Mumbai confirmed his voice samples in a tapped conversation with another accomplice Vindoo Dara Singh.

The names of three active players were inadvertently mentioned initially. However, the honorable court decided to strike off their names considering the sensitivity of the issue and the possible far reaching implications of this disclosure on their career.

The hearing was further adjourned till November 24. All four people were asked to be physically present in the court for the next hearing.

The BCCI elections that were slated for November 20, have now been put on hold.

Our Central Govt always targets unknown Black Money!!!! Instead they should target White Money stashed in Club like BCCI and others….. Why can’t use the funds accumulated in BCCI and few other Temples for developmental works? Let our Govt give some Bonds with interest to these Clubs or Temple Trusts so that at least interest money will not go out from our country!!!
