India's first crime writers festival soon

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS): Come January next year and India would be hosting the inaugural edition of the Crime Writers Festival, organisers said Saturday.

The two day festival that will be held Jan 17-18 at the India Habitat Centre is conceptualised by Namita Gokhale, co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, writer Kishwar Desai and the Crime Writer's Forum of South Asia.

It will be produced by Siyahi, a literature promotion group, and curator and historian Alka Pande would play the role of creative director.

"A team of crime and thriller writers from across the world will examine the art of crime writing to see how it influences society and reflects the blurring lines of right and wrong," said a statement.

"They will be joined by noted scriptwriters and directors, who will dissect the genre in visual medium and performing arts," it added.

Acclaimed crime authors such as British author David Stuart Davies, French author Caryl Ferey, Norwegian authors Nils Nordberg and Trude Teige, Swedish writer Hakan Nesser, and Indian authors Amrita Chowdhary, Amrita Tripathi, Anita Raghavan, among several others will attend the festival.
