Bengaluru: No decision on Kambala ban: T B Jayachandra

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Nov 16: Law minister T B Jayachandra has made it clear that any decision on the Kambala ban has not been yet made.

“Only after studying the issue properly a decision will be made,” the law minister said.
Jayachandra was speaking after holding a high level meeting with officials at Vidhana Soudha. The meeting was necessitated after the Udupi district administration received a directive from state chief secretary saying Kambala should not be held in the district. The directive cited the Supreme Court order.

Supreme Court had ordered the ban on Kambala, citing the reason of animal cruelty. The Indian animal welfare board had gone to the court demanding the ban.

The district administration had received applications to hold Kambala events from November 15, 2014 to March 28, 2015 in different places. The said directive came at a time when preparations for the beginning of the annual Kambala were going on.
It was debated that the said that violence on the animals is not practiced in the region and so many modifications have taken place in the recent past to make it animal friendly. Some legal experts even opined that the said ban is not applicable to Kambala.

Jayachandra promised that he would study the directives by Animal Welfare Board.

“Kambala is a traditional sport of costal Karnataka. It is an emotional issue as well. We will not take any decision on Kambala in a hurry.” Jayachandra said.

Earlier in a television interview he had said that Supreme Court order which mentioned animal violence would be studied in detail with regard to implications on local Kambala.

You can maintain Mercedes car but not Kambala Konas. Kambala is the traditional and vocational sports of coastal districts should be encouraged instead of ban. But cock fight is not only torture but killing birds for betting and enjoyment. But it should also be allowed vocationally since some tradition attached to this. Respect the human life over cast creed and religion then every thing follows.

Some people say meat is our food so we kill animals, some say our sports so we treat them in a cruel way (even for one day), some say that without animal we can't do our work. Friends here if we see all are right so why there is a ban on something and not on something. If you ban then ban all or permit everyone.

Banning Tulu Nadu sport Kambala is a nonsense decision..If they say torture on Buffaloes, then what about bullock cart, horse cart?..how many times bullock cart/horse cart handler/driver beat poor animals ! In Kamabala,Buffaloes get beating only at the time of Race, after that they get 5 Star luxury life..Please go and check how Kambala buffaloes are treated by owners.. You can't take ordinary buffaloes to Kambala race..

Just compare how humans are subjected to torture and pain in the sports like Boxing, Kick boxing, WWF (cage wrestling) still people enjoy and government does not impose ban on such events internationally.
This is a traditional sport and there is special attraction in such event. In the meantime these buffaloes are taken care of and fed well rest of the time. Tourture is when stolen cattle is left to starve and butchered mercilessly. What about buffaloes are used to plough in the fields?

..beating animals in the name of entertainment crime but killing animals in the name of religion is OK..those who oppose KAMBLA should visit the people who spend lakhs of rupeses to take care of their animal just for one or two events in a year..If this is cruelty then what about farmers using bulls or buffalo whole year in farm land under heat of sun!!

    Well said anna.

I want to point out one thing about GREATNESS of Yakshagana.

Yakshagana is the LIVE performance and there is no second chance to correct their mistakes. But in films it is shot first behind the camera. Lot of trial and error takes place. Finally they show the corrected, recorded film on the screen.

Can any film actor perform live on the screen? Not at all...

Yakshagana artists are very well talented, skilled. They practice a lot and live perform only once infront of audience.

No Rajkumar/Rajanikantha/Amitabh can match Yakshagana artists.

The expressions, dance, Girake of Yakshagana artists are ultimate and no film actors can do this.

I always watch Yakshagana in youtube.

Ultimately I have to say : Yakshaganakke Yakshaganave saati.

If I was Chief minister, I would have d Rs 20000 monthly salary for all Yakshagana artists.

When this Indian animal welfare board goes to court against slaughter of animals if they think cruelty involved in traditional Kambala sports??? They mean to say when animals are slaughtered they don’t feel pain instead laughingly cut off their head??
