Udupi, Nov 10: The annual Yakshagana awards instituted by the Yakshagana Kalaranga were announced here on Thursday November 9.

Speaking to presspersons, the Kalaranga president Jagajeevandas Shetty informed that the prestigious Sri Visvesha Teertha award would be conferred on Sri Lakshmi Janardhana Yakshagana Kala Mandali of Udupi.

Senior Yakshagana artiste Purushotam Bhat bagged the B B Shetty award. Darlyani Nagaya won the B V Acharya award while Nellur Mariyappa Achar got the Bhagavata Naranappa Uppoor award. The other awards announced by him were the Dashvatari Marvi Ramkrishna Hebbar-Bhagavata Vadiraja Hebbar award for Halladi Manjayya Shetty, the Kota Vaikunta award for Gajanana Bhandary Halidpur, the Padur Narasimha Shastri award for Puttur Sheenappa Bhandary and the H R Kedlaya award for Karuvulu Deranna Shetty.

The awards will be presented by Pejawar math seer Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji on Sunday November 19 at a function at Poornaprajna auditorium here.

The chief guests for the function will be MLA Raghupati Bhat and Third State Finance Commission chairman A G Kodgi. Yakshagana Kendra Heranje director Krishna Bhat will deliver the B B Shetty memorial lecture.

A tala maddale 'Ekadashi Mahatme' will be held before the function. 'Purusha Mriga' will perform Yakshagana at the end of the programme, Shetty said.
